As I logged on to write my weekly blog entry, I had a completely different train of thought than New Year’s resolutions. Then, I see a pop-up ad probably selling a magazine or book and the headline is “Oprah is fat again at 200 pounds”! She is embarrassed about it and in this magazine or book, she will tell you how she got to that weight. Shocker!
Hey listen, I am not going to write a book about it because there really isn’t that much to say about it. I eat unhealthy food, I don’t get enough exercise, I sit in a chair all day watching my ass get larger and larger each year, and did I mention my love for beer? Especially Bud Light, which they cleverly call that to assure me that I am drinking “light” so there must be less calories.
So, each year, I vow that I am going to lose weight this year, improve my diet, eliminate stress, and make time for exercise. Oh my gosh, last year, I actually went four months of going to the gym every morning at five o’clock. Now, that really sucks. However, in always trying to find the best in everything, I did find a great deal of hot women exercise in Spandex at that time of the morning. Now, before anybody gets angry about my sexist comment, this is my private exercise time, and a man must make do with his surroundings and so I did. It was good motivation and all looking was done with appreciation instead of ogling.
I digress, back to the resolution issue, the question is, am I going to make that same resolution again? I think it is certainly important given the fact that we are in a high stress industry and most of us are “on” 24/7, and live and breathe our business as opposed to a regular job where you actually get off work and forget about it until the next day.
Our sleep is interrupted by late night and early morning crisis situations and we are tied to the phone whether in the office or at the gym. We spend so much time taking care of our clients, taking care of the family, taking care of our employees and taking care of our friends that we sometimes neglect taking care of ourselves. And, that reminds me, if I don’t take care of myself, who is going to take care of all those people if I am not around? It is time to make a change and I am going to give it another try. In January of course, not today.
