as one anonymous chauffeur told the New York Times? Former police officers who double as body guards can make this kind of dough, the story says. And these drivers carry guns. Perhaps this reference is to private drivers for wealthy customers or corporate executives. Chauffeurs working full time in New York for operators are going to be making about $60,000 to $80,000 (tips included) in this market, according to the LCT Fact Book survey and what we've been told. For hire operators do have a small number of chauffeurs making even more money, but they usually work long weeks and have a handful of long-term loyal wealthy customers. -- J.L.
