Passports, Get Out Yer Passports!

NEW LAW: The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative takes effect on June 1 of this year. Read all about the details here.
For ground transportation companies, this has to do with cross border trips to Canada and Mexico. Great Lakes Limousine Association Executive Director Richard Greiner made the following points:
  • The law was to go into effect back in January, 2007, but the Ground Transportation portion of the law was delayed due to the flood of passport requests that overwhelmed the U.S. Dept. of State.
  • There are several options to getting a passport. One option is an Enhanced Driver's License, currently available in New York, and Washington, and Michigan is working on one.
  • Be sure your chauffeurs have the proper documents in place before June 1st.
  • The Chauffeur is responsible for the passengers within the vehicle. Please remind your chauffeurs to check the passengers for proper documents before crossing the border.
