JIM LUFF Reports: Naming Rights and Fights In Denver

OPERATORS IN DENVER ENGAGE IN BATTLE OF NAMES

Grab a cup of coffee as we engage in a tale of mayhem. It seems that an enterprising young lad has upset many operators in the Denver area by “borrowing” various names. Rather than focus on one single company name, 23-year-old Igor Davidson has launched various websites with many different names.
While Igor Davidson is his real name, he prefers to go by the moniker of Mr. Limo, and went so far as to register that name with the state of Colorado. We could call this the beginning of the name game, at least for Igor.

You see, six years ago two brothers closed a limousine service in Denver called, Mr. Limo. Since it was no longer in use, why not resurrect it? At the time it closed, Igor was a mere teenager working for the family business, Affordable Mike’s Limousine Service. As Igor grew up and possibly out of his father’s business, he set up shop next door to Denver Lincoln Limousine, a 20-year-old company operated by A.C. Poppenberg. While I am sure that Poppenberg didn’t like the idea of prospective clients being able to walk next door to check out the competition, it was probably worse when Igor decided to name his new company, Denver Limousine.

This is not the first name battle to take place in Denver. Larry Carwin owns A-Advantage Limousine Service and had his own battle with Advantage Denver Limousine.
If that battle wasn’t enough, Carwin alleges that Igor copied A-Advantage’s website on a word-for-word basis. However, Igor denies that claim. Whether he did or did not probably doesn’t matter since he set his eyes on another company anyway, as far as websites are concerned. Corporate Choice Limousines in Denver posted a disclaimer on its Limos.com web page stating that Igor had stolen its website and tried to fool people.

Well, apparently, that choice didn’t work out as well so yet another Denver-based company was chosen as a model for Igor’s business. Sunset Luxury Limousine has been operated for about 20 years in Denver by Darren Weidenhamer. Weidenhamer had to engage the services of the law firm, Brown and Kennedy, when Igor set up shop as Sunset Limousine Transportation.
This name is in addition to Front Range Limousine. According to Igor, he has about 30 websites and gives great credit to his “web people” for driving traffic to him under a variety of different names that might be similar to competitors but yet differ in small ways. By the way, the website domain, Sunset Limousine Transportation, is for sale by Igor for some reason.

If you are confused, so am I, and I am going to take a nap.
