Operators Take Struggle To State Capital

PRLA Marches On Harrisburg

Tomorrow, I will adorn my most comfortable shoes and join the board of the Philadelphia Regional Limousine Association (PRLA) as they march on Harrisburg to gain support of their bill to remove regulatory responsibility from the Philadelphia Parking Authority and return control to the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission.
Since the Philadelphia Parking Authority took control of the regulation of the limousine industry in Philadelphia, operators pay an average of $10,000 a year more in fees. The day of lobbying includes hourly meetings to garner support for this cause.
This effort by the PRLA is grassroots as it works this effort without the help of a professional lobbyist or an attorney. Operators are writing legislation, working with their state senators and congressmen to correct the language, and working with their staffs to get all of the details taken care of. They have mounted letter writing and telephone campaigns to gain support for the bill. The association members are passionate about their plight, and that passion propels them forward to keep the momentum moving forward to bring this closer to reality.

As I chronicled in my Driving Force article about the PRLA last month, this is a David versus Goliath task. I will detail my adventure in Wednesday's Driving Force.
