Woodstock — 40 Years Later

ROCK THE BUS: My parents weren’t into rock music so Woodstock came and went with little notice or comment. But growing up in the 1970s and 80s, Woodstock shaped the music of my generation. It touched generations that followed. I have seen Jimi Hendrix on the stage of Woodstock many times in documentaries. Nothing has occurred since that has marked the music world as this event did.

If Woodstock means so much to so many, I believe there must be ways for our industry to capitalize on this anniversary. Certainly tour operators have the opportunity to design tours themed around this event going to Woodstock, N.Y. or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. I think retail transportation providers have the opportunity to work with venues in the area to create Woodstock-themed events. How about a Woodstock scavenger hunt or bar hop? When events such as this occur, we all have an opportunity to capitalize on them.

Picture this: Scott Solombrino of Dav El with his Scott Baio hair parted in the middle and feathered back wearing a white leisure suit with bell bottoms riding the bus through Boston leading the gang on a scavenger hunt. Or Dean Schuler in tie-dye outfit and an afro (Dean did at one time don hair) taking a crowd on a limo bus tour while videos of the original Woodstock are rolling. This is a bit far- fetched, but you get the point.

Let us know your creative ideas to incorporate Woodstock into dollars for your business. Please keep this G-rated, folks. I realize the original Woodstock had an element of risqué but that is not a thread I would like to go toward.
