FALLOUT: Luxury Resorts Struggle Amid Biz Travel Scare

DAMAGES: I say “scare,” since certain opportunistic political forces and special interests so spooked the business travel sector over AIG excesses, that now major luxury resorts — lucrative destinations for many a Town Car and SUV — struggle to keep their doors open. Fear and intimidation has clearly compounded a recession, as evidenced by the number of resorts and hotels in California in financial trouble. While many companies may shift their events to more modest locations and use shuttle buses, it can’t compare to the revenue generation of a continuous flow of Town Cars, SUVs, and limos pulling up to luxury resorts with conference attendees. -- M.R.
