BS Alert! TLC Bluetooth Ban Begins Today

EXTREME MEASURES? The New Taxi and Limousine Commission's new rules on electronic devices in for-hire vehicles go into effect today; unfortunately, moderation is not a virtue. . . .

While bans on all manual, hand-held communication devices make sense, including texting, the Bluetooth prohibition smacks of governmental overreach. Let's hope the enforcers understand the difference between a TLC-registered black vehicle, and a non-TLC registered ones; interstate commerce and reciprocity rules, for example, clearly prohibit enforcers from citing a chauffeur driving a Town Car registered with a non-TLC operator. . .

As the argument goes, If human beings at one time adapted to walking and chewing gum at the same time, then we can certainly adapt to driving with wireless devices. -- Martin Romjue, LCT editor
