My hometown of Bakersfield, Calif. always keeps me on the run, this time with a world-class business conference.
This Saturday, Bakersfield will play host to a business conference that will bring some of the world’s most powerful business leaders and speakers under one roof. Actually, they will speak under one very large tent capable of holding 10,000 guests expected to listen to the speakers.
As the exclusive provider of transportation services, we are privileged to drive former vice-president Dick Cheney and his wife, Herb Cohen, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Rudy Giulliani and Goldie Hawn, just to name a few.
Handling the roster of 40 speakers and people attending the BAKERSFIELD BUSINESS CONFERENCE has been a daunting task. Speakers will begin arriving on Friday, so most need a ride to the hotel, a ride to the conference, back to the hotel, and then wherever their final destinations may be on Sunday. Some are also going to lunches and dinners while in town, so that will bring the total number of rides over a three-day period to more than 160!
This of course does not include the people that we are picking up at the airport and private residences to attend the event. That adds about another 40 rides to the mix. It certainly is a daunting task, but not uncharted as the conference originally began in 1989 and had become an annual event when it was retired in 2005. However, five years later, it was resurrected and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
For our small company, this single job is a huge financial shot in the arm. The financial effects also trickle to our subs from Los Angeles, Fresno and Modesto that are coming in to help us along with our friends across town at Vintage Limousine. We are grateful for the work and grateful to be the contractor assigned to the job. I know that I have completely overloaded my faithful and loyal assistant, Treanna, so I am going to give her a public shout out on my blog today to thank her as well as our farm-out companies for their assistance.
Next week I will share the success stories and lessons learned from mishaps. While I certainly don’t want any drama on Saturday, I know that we will be thrown into chaos when one speaker decides he wants to stay longer than planned to watch someone else speak and our whole schedule will be tumbled.
