Cloud computing is a major technological breakthrough because of its potential to save costs and reduce the hassle of having in-house computer servers. It would also allow companies to access and use back-office software from anywhere, as the cloud can host business documents, files, and accounts, among other things. But just how safe is your data in the cloud?
“There are some real Achilles’ heels in the cloud infrastructure that are making big holes for the bad guys to get into,” Eugene Schultz, chief technology officer at Emagined Security, told the L.A. Times. The Times reports that the “recent string of high-profile attacks, most recently against Citigroup, Inc. and Sony Corp., have shown that nearly every organization is vulnerable to a growing contingent of well-trained and agile attackers who are finding security holes faster than they can be plugged.”
All anyone can do now is beef up on cyber-security and hope that it repels attacks. For the most part, cloud computing is still a very viable and innovative option that allows operators to save on overhead costs and work from anywhere.
